About Sisters

Pema Thang was built in 1998 by two sisters, Kalsang Chukie Tethong and Namgyal Lhamo Genkhang. It was their desire to build a simple but homely hotel in Dharmsala, the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. As both the sisters were members of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA),  they named their hotel after the well-known Tibetan folk song called PemaThang, meaning the “Lotus Field”. This popular song is from Kongpo, the southern region of Tibet.
